In Love with this Book

Last night, I finished the most charming and delightful book. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of the best new books I’ve read in a long time. I was enthralled with a story that took place in a time way before mine. The story was engaging…one where you could laugh, cry, and smile all at the same time. The writing is refreshing and done in a unique way.

I became fascinated with the people living on Guernsey just after World War II. Their lives, their families, and their loyalty to their friend Elizabeth kept me turning page after page. Not since Lizzy and Darcy have I felt this connected to characters in a book. Simply delightful!

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story with a feel good ending. You will not be disappointed.

The Age of a Tree

For all of you who participated in the "tree guessing game" thank you. Even you, SuperDaysh (even though you didn't guess the age). For the rest of you, I know you were playing in your hearts. Hehehe.

There were no winners in this game (although, if I would have announced a prize, would more people have played?). The real age of the tree is 8 1/2 years old. I just think that is incredible!

8 1/2 years ago, in the fall after my brother's wedding, my mom's friend gave her a twig. I kid you not, it was a twig, and told her if she planted this in the ground, it would grow to a big tree. We all laughed. Seriously, a twig. And it was October and starting to get cold. But my mom didn't want to hurt her friend's feelings, so she found a little spot in the backyard and stuck that little twig in the ground. 8 1/2 years later...that tree is taking over the backyard.

I, personally, love this tree. It's pretty and it provides lots of wonderful shade. Plus, I'm always rooting for the underdog. (Remember how I'm an LA Clippers fan? That's right, the underdog!) This tree reminds me that even when all odds are against you - weather, size, doubters - anything is possible.

Look at that...a lesson from the curling willow.

Thanks for playing!

Summer O' Fun at Beer Can Flats

On our next Summer O’ Fun adventure, we headed to “Beer Can Flats” for a hot dog roast and s’mores.

Uncle Erik joined us this time.

Mom’s marshmallow kept catching on fire. Half the time, she didn’t even realize it.

The CMan thought relish was really disgusting.

Then, a little walk.

I played like I was the paparazzi.

And a little bit wet in the creek.

Summer O’ Fun has been my best idea to date…I’m convinced.

4th of July

4th of July was just as festive as always.

Started out the day looking for fireworks with my bro.

Look how cute my nephews are in their Home Depot aprons. They made bug catchers in the morning…and caught bugs all night long.

The Backyard of Fire

Mom waiting for the show to start...or maybe the show had already started. Not sure.

I hate fireworks. Ever since I got burned with a sparkler as a kid. But I was brave and enjoyed the show.

And my sunburn from the day before.

The weather didn’t cooperate, so we took the party inside.

What a way to celebrate the Red, White, and Blue!

Baseball

No summer would be complete without a little baseball!

The CMan played baseball this year. Oh so fun! Here are a few shots of him playing some ball.

The kid has got some mad skills!
I love this shot. So typical of 5 year olds.

After, we headed to the Owlz home opener. The Owlz won.

Hootz has a girlfriend now, Holly. I still do not like mascots. And two of the running around at the same time...ewww!

Catching Up

I’m so far behind with my blogging! Lots and lots to blog about…Summer O’ Fun festivities, baseball, and 4th of July. Oh, believe me dear blog readers, it will be worth the wait!

Summer O’ Fun continues! You know, when I first made my Summer O’ Fun list, the entire family laughed at me. Now that I’ve forced them to have fun this summer, I think they’ve all rather enjoyed it. We’ve got two Summer O’ Fun activities to catch up on.

First, we went to the Icelander Monument in Spanish Fork.

I think this is my new favorite picture of the Mster and the CMan. So handsome in their hats!

Here we all are hanging out at the monument.

Then, we headed to downtown Spanish Fork to check out the little park where Papa’s brick is.

Everyone looking for the brick.

There it is!

Mom hanging out by Papa’s old office. This is where he practiced Optometry.
